Some salespeople feel compelled to write down each and every word before delivering a presentation to customers.
Others, prefer to wing it by spouting off anything that comes to mind--relevant or not, forcing the customers in the audience to check their email. The third category of sales presenters like to show off their ability to read text off a slide. This is always the way to "wow" a group into investing thousands of dollars into a solution. Instead of memorizing, spouting, or reading off slides, try these tips before and during your sales presentations to make your delivery more compelling and to gain buy-in:
1. Create a "brain burst" that is a visual representation of your ideas on paper. 2. Organize your thoughts into 3 main points. ONLY 3. 3. Divide your sub-points so that they fit under one of the 3 bullets. 4. When you have determined what you are going to say, then (and ONLY then), create your slides. 5. Resist the urge to put more than 4 bullets with 4 words on each line (graphics are OK) 6. Plan on using only one slide for every 5 minutes of your talk. 7. As a safety net, have a 3x5 index card with a maximum of 10 words on the card to guide you if you need a crutch. 8. Always plan on finishing up your presentation just a few minutes early. Your customers will appreciate that. Want to know more? Email me and ask for the "Presenter's Top 10 Tips" in your email box.
