| Notching It Up |
|
This article is a veritable potpourri of what I've learned over the last few weeks while racking up my Frequent Flyer miles around the world. Here are some thoughts to get your creative juices flowing, as well as some tips to keep you "notched up" in your business:
1. Because of the economy and persistent negative news messages, sales reps (i.e. YOUR competition) are getting discouraged by hearing "no" more often than usual. All the more reason for you to maintain your persistence and positive attitude. Avoid letting the stress "show" in your voice while following up. Keep your emails upbeat and optimistic. No one likes to hang around with a "downer". Let your competition kiss themselves out of the deal. You be there to get the business--whatever you are selling! 2. Read some body language. If the customer sticks something like a pen or the earpiece from his glasses into his mouth, he is seeking more "nourishment" from your presentation. Provide more meat and watch the need for oral gratification go away while you demonstrate how your products and services solve his/her problems. 3. Arrive early and stay late. While attending a networking event, get there early to meet people and maximize your schmooze-time and plan on staying late. You carved out the time, so simply carve out a bit more and take advantage of the opportunity to expand your network. 4. Volunteer to speak at events. Get your face/name/products out there and become an expert by standing in front of a room and successfully communicating. Nervous? The more you speak, the better you'll get. 5. Don't give up. Stay on top of your customers and they'll keep you in mind for the short term and the long term. Keep your chin up. Smile. Feel the love, oh, and close more sales!
